Hosting epic outdoor adventures since 1955

The Hamlet of Canyon Creek came into existence during railway construction in 1914, followed by the opening of a sawmill in 1916.

Mink farming and commercial fishing both thrived here for several decades. The community once featured a restaurant, a shoe repair place, two auto repair shops, three stores that sold groceries and hardware, a post office, and a cold storage facility for fish.

Canyon Creek has since slowed its feverish pace, evolving into an idyllic lakefront community tailor-made for relaxation and recreation in the great outdoors. But the intrepid spirit remains.

Those of us who maintain the harbour and campgrounds share the work ethic and love for the land of the community’s founders. We look forward to sharing this legacy with you.

A Quick Orientation

Main, West and Group Campgrounds

Our campground is comprised of three distinct waterfront locations; each offering different experiences, but all having the same access to amenities and activities.

The main campground near the harbor offers powered and non-powered options for either tents or trailers. This campground features showers, bathrooms, boat launching/mooring, and a convenience store.

Just a short walk up the road to the west awaits a more rustic and heavily-treed experience with non-powered sites available for tents or trailers. Group camping sites are adjacent to the non-powered campground are the group camping sites.

Boat Launch

Our small craft harbor has a handy boat launch, and offers sheltered daily and seasonal mooring options.

Don't have a boat, but still love to fish? People fishing from the shore or the pier are certainly welcome. These folks tend to enjoy a good success rate for catching some of the lake's northern pike, walleye and burbot.

Campground Store
We're in the process of onboarding our campground managers. Once up to speed, these folks will determine how the store will operate during the 2023 camping season. Stay tuned for more details!
New Amenities
Year over year, we strive to enhance aspects of our campgrounds to help guests get the most out of their stay. This season we have new toilet and showe facilities, as well as a fish cleaning station. These amenities are located at the main campground, and are free for use by all patrons.
Nearby Activities

You may find it hard to leave your lakeside camping spot, but trust us: there are lots of other things to see and do in Lesser Slave River. What's more, day trips to other locations are all the more rewarding when you get to come back to lake views and friendly faces. Remnants of our fish-filled heritage

The big building now known as the Canyon Creek Hotel was originally a provincial fish hatchery. It was built in 1928 to fertilize whitefish eggs as they hatched.
